He said Queensland had benefitted from the Commonwealth's temporary flood levy, which Tony Abbott opposed, and there was sufficient funds remaining to do the work.
"We have provided Queensland with $6 billion to cover the major floods of recent years, $6 billion of which $3 billion sits in an account with the Queensland Government so I'm somewhat puzzled that they would now return around and seek to I pose an additional tax on Queenslanders for the floods when we have given such significant money to Queensland over recent years including $3 billion still sitting in an account, unspent," said Mr Swan.
"The people of Australia contributed some of that money as well through a temporary levy which Tony Abbott was against and now the Queensland Government is seeking to say almost retrospectively they want to raise more money which the Commonwealth Government has already given them $6 billion for."
