A levy is being considered to flood proof infrastructure in Queensland. |
Queenslanders could be hit with a new tax as the Newman Government considers putting a levy in next month's budget.
A spokesman for Local Government Minister David Crisafulli said the levy was being discussed by senior ministers to pay to flood proof infrastructure in vulnerable areas.
The details are still being ironed out with it not known if people in areas hit by floods over the past two years would be exempt from paying it.
The levy, which would place an extra charge on household bills, could be in place past the next election with the current proposal enacting it for up to five years.
